Robot Palletiser Electrical Installation

A new palletising cell at Myrtleford needed everything behind the robot: switchgear, drive power, containment, and safety wiring. Scope delivered the electrical infrastructure while Scope Automation brought the robot and PLC to life.

The Brief

Scope of Works

Hops Products Australia commissioned a new palletising cell at its Myrtleford site, built to handle product in two configurations: a single 20kg bag or two 5kg bags per layer. The cell had to talk to the case packer and check weigher feeding it, drive a pallet dispenser and empty pallet conveyors, and hand finished pallets across to a wrapper and labelling system.

That is a lot of equipment sharing one footprint, and all of it needed power, containment, and safety wiring that would hold up in a production environment for years. Scope Electrical took on the electrical delivery from switchboard through to final termination.

What We Did

The Electrical Delivery

Motor control centre design and build, including a segregated variable speed drive section
Power distribution and final subcircuits to the robot cell, conveyors, wrapper, and labeller
Cable tray and ladder routing across the cell, with power and data runs kept separate
Field wiring and terminations for sensors, safety devices, and drive feedback
Safety circuit wiring covering interlocked access gates, light curtains, and e-stop loops
Handshaking wiring between the palletiser, case packer, check weigher, and wrapper
Supply and control wiring for the pallet dispenser and empty pallet conveyors
Testing, verification, and commissioning support to AS/NZS 3000

Alongside Scope Automation

Scope Automation programmed the ABB IRB 460 robot and the Rockwell CompactLogix PLC running the cell. Working as one team meant the electrical design followed the control strategy from day one, so panel layout, drive selection, and safety zoning all matched how the cell would actually run. No retrofitting, no surprises at commissioning.

From the Job

The Result

A Cell That Runs Both Configurations

The cell went live handling both pack configurations, integrated with the equipment either side of it and with the existing site safety protocols carried through into the new wrapper system.

Manual handling on the line dropped away and throughput lifted. Just as valuable to the site: the electrical infrastructure is labelled, documented, and laid out so a fault can be found quickly and future equipment can be added without starting over.
